From 27 April to 3 May, the dancer Calixto Neto was in residence at the Cultural and associative centre on Campus. This residency was devoted to creating the Outrar dance project, by the Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues, which was presented during the Kunstenfestivaldesarts festival in Brussels, from 20 - 24 May 2021.
A discussion session with researchers and students will be organised about Calixto Neto’s work on campus during the 2021-2022 academic year.
Outrar means becoming someone else, being “infected” by another person through constant communication. Following the success of her choreographic masterpiece Fúria – an explosive performance that took the main stage at the Théâtre National by storm during the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in 2019 – Lia Rodrigues is back to share an uncut diamond with the audience in Brussels, a collective danse project that she dreamed up during the long months of lockdown and created in Brazil with her company. Since it was impossible to travel – and she had to stay in Brazil – she worked on this new project for the festival “online”, with dancers from her company and musicians from various backgrounds. So, the choreography roams from one continent to another, from one body to another. Outrar is a series of choreographic messages and a musical letter sent from Brazil to dancers that are close to Lia Rodrigues and now live in Europe: it is a powerful voyage between near and far.
