Researchers, faculty, and PhD and Master’s students will benefit from instant access to resources, the wide range of services, and the user-friendly environment provided by the GED.
A tool for research in the humanities and social sciences
The Grand équipement documentaire will make use of the latest, innovative digital technologies to create a shared research laboratory for the humanities and social sciences. It will be accessible 24/24 and 7/7, and will make a large amount of physical and digital materials available to its researchers. It will also benefit from synergies with the TGIR HUMA-NUM initiative (a very large research infrastructure initiative focused on supporting the digital turn humanities and social sciences), and the Biblissima observatory for medieval and renaissance written cultural heritage.
A research library designed to support research, the GED has several main goals:
Strengthen ties between various research groups by facilitating collaborative projects.
Support the launch of national and international research initiatives by providing a broad array of services.
Support access to and promotion of the research of its groups and member establishments.
Facilitate access to knowledge across the Île-de-France region.
The collections
More than 50 libraries, archives, and document repositories across 25 sites in the Île-de-France region are bringing their collections to the GED. The GED boasts an interdisciplinary array of unique disciplinary collections, whose nearly one million items include mainly books and journals, but also research archives, photographs, films, maps, and sound recordings in physical or digital formats. Most of the materials will be openly available.
The archives and rare or precious books and manuscripts will be held in reserve and available for consultation in a dedicated room.
