Four compost bins are available in the Campus vegetable garden, which are supplied by Plaine Commune. Everyone interested in gardening and reducing waste - researchers, students, Campus staff, local residents - is invited to come and use them.
The offices and social spaces on Campus are brimming with waste that is just right for compost bins: used coffee grounds, tea, fruit peel, brown cardboard, etc. Composting is an easy way to recycle this waste and help keep the vegetable garden healthy. In fact, waste decomposes into fertiliser for vegetables so that when the time comes, the harvest will be even better!
To make sure that waste can decompose correctly, each bin must be filled and turned (using a special fork to aerate the compost) once a week. If possible, you must also make sure you add balanced quantities of wet and dry waste. Most important of all, before anything goes in the compost bins, you must first sort your organic waste.
There are also composting workshops, which are hosted by a Plaine Commune employee.
